Imagine having a coat made from the fur of many rats. Okay, a Chinchilla overcoat? As my wife’s Ukrainian Baba used to say, “Sam Ting” (translation: It’s the same thing)! In case you weren’t aware (I wasn’t), over the past 15 years or so, due to human hunting, chinchillas are today a threatened species.
The Hub was located where the United We Can bottle depot was located until recently; the old building will soon be demolished to give way to a 14-storey social housing development.
I was surprised to learn that a chinchilla overcoat in 1928 cost just under $30 (at a different retail outlet than The Hub).
